“All endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.”

Have there ever been circumstances in your life where you were unable to determine why a particular outcome occurred? You can certainly find the answers to these kinds of questions by reading this book. The life story of Eddie, an 83-year-old who passes away and enters paradise, is told in this book. It also demonstrates the sheer number of threads that make up the quilt of life.

This narrative explores the meaning of life and what happens to us after we die.

Plot:

The protagonist of the book is Eddie, an elderly maintenance worker at an amusement park. Eddie dies while trying to save a young girl who is in the way of a falling cart that is headed straight towards Earth while working on the “Free Fall” ride. Eddie passes away and meets five individuals in heaven who, though unanticipated, had a significant impact on his life.

Eddie gains a better understanding of the meaning of his earthly journey, the lessons he should have learned, and the real reason behind his arrival as he travels through heaven with each guide. Dramatic flashbacks peppered throughout show scenes from his difficult upbringing, his time serving in the army in the jungles of the Philippines, and his time spent with his one and only love.

Favourite Quotes

“Love is an endless act of forgiveness. Forgiveness is me giving up the right to hurt you for hurting me.”

The five people you meet in heaven

“Learn this from me. Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from the inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.”

The five people you meet in heaven

“Lost love is still love. It takes a different form, that’s all. You can’t see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it.”

The five people you meet in heaven

“Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you’re not really losing it. You’re just passing it on to someone else.”
