In an uplifting story, a seaside community aids a young woman in reclaiming the light after darkness.
The worst has been experienced by Annie Marlow. When tragedy strikes, she travels to the only location that brings her joy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, where the family spent a lot of time when Annie was a teenager.
Once there, Annie starts to mend her broken spirit in part because of the people she meets: Britt, a teen with a terrible secret; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Keaton, a local painter whose large frame is equal to his big heart—and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea. Yet, Keaton is the one to whom Annie is most drawn. She finds solace and relief from her sorrow in his quiet, serene personality, and they get closer.
Then, something threatens to ruin the idyll Annie has become accustomed to. She is caught between the thrill of embarking on a new path to success and the safe and secure arms of the haven—and the man—she has come to call home when the chance of a lifetime falls into her lap.
In this endearing story, Annie discovers that helping others overcome their suffering and find a path to heal is the surest way to mend what is broken inside.
What I liked about/didn’t like about the book?
COTTAGE BY THE SEA by Debbie Macomber is a powerful and heartbreaking novel that will break your heart in more ways than one. She tells a story that is heartfelt and perhaps painful but tinged with hope using her distinctive writing style. One of my favourite authors has released a new book, and I adore it. She wrote a story that is occasionally quite sentimental, loving, and romantic as well. When I first met Annie, she was bursting with energy, optimism, and joy. She was determined to enjoy a four-day weekend with her friends without being hindered by obligations to her family. Honestly, an average twenty-something who believes she owns the world.
As many people are aware, life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, especially when tragedy hits. I grew to adore Annie, and I grew to appreciate how she was finally able to breathe, find peace, and have another chance at love. I couldn’t resist Annie once the little hamlet of Oceanside cast its spell on her. I was eager to find out if this unique town was real so that I may go there one day. As I read, I became engrossed in Annie’s story of accepting her loss and establishing her new normal while simultaneously searching for the calm that has evaded her for more than a year. The narrative is so seamless that I was unaware of its conclusion.
Ms. Macomber tells a tale that is both compelling and endearing. A compelling tale that will stick with you long after you’ve finished the book. The people in the story made me smile, sigh, cry, and laugh. I had such a great time getting to know Annie, Keaton, and the people of Oceanside. Ms. Macomber has a talent for telling tales that leave you gasping for air and wanting more. This is a great entry point into her writing if you’ve never read one of her books. I do want to warn you that when you fall into Annie’s life and loss, you might occasionally need a box of tissues. A fast-paced narrative like COTTAGE BY THE SEA will make you happy inside and out.
Who should read this?
It was a pleasure to read Cottage by the Sea. There is romance in it, of course. Yet it’s also the tale of individuals overcoming difficult pasts and overcoming trauma in order to discover fresh and great things in life. It’s about sticking with a challenging friendship and forming unlikely friendships. This book simply has a lot of life.
I believe you’ll enjoy this book if you want to read anything with a little bit of romance and the gradual emergence of optimism. A pleasant weekend read.
