Plot:

I heard this book on Audible. A Japanese book where a Budhist monk explains the meditative feeling associated with cleaning which has the power of cleaning souls. Cleaning our homes and our surroundings has the power to bring orderliness, calmness and beauty to our lives. Living in a dirty surrounding, will eventually make our lives soiled too. while majority of people today take cleaning as a boring task and would always want to this in a hurry. In contrast the author highlights the importance of performing a mindful cleaning which is associated to enlightenment.

We mostly clean things that we have bought, and we should always love them when not in utilization. Objects should not be simply warded off, if not in use. Here the author has very bluntly put forward an important point that if we don’t respect things that we once used and consider it as garbage, then we will definitely never respect people. And if this is the behavior that we are depicting in front of children then even they will consider everything not useful to them as garbage and will eventually reflect this behavior in their friendship too.

What I liked about the book?

  1. The best time to clean is during mornings or when are surroundings are silent.
  2. We need to bring in consistency and perseverance in our daily tasks that involve cleaning.
  3. While we initiate cleaning, we should always keep our windows open so the fresh air can make our home pure and this is also our way to connect to the natural world.
  4. Humans should learn to live in harmony with nature and there while we are cleaning our surroundings we should avoid killing any insects or living being.
  5. Cleaning should never be a one persons responsibility but it should be divided amongst family members. Consider cleaning as a family bounding activity.
  6. Once cleaning is completed, its time to clean the tools that you used for cleaning your surrounding.
  7. There should be no dust on the source of light in our homes. Keep it clean.
  8. Always sun dry your clothes.
  9. Cobwebs should be removed.
