Plot: This story unlike other stories starts with a death. Wallace price, a big time successful lawyer has lost touch with his human side. He is rude, unsympathetic and does not have any friends. In the starting we see a conversation between him and one of his employee who he is about to fire. Though the conversation is been put by Klune in a funny side but the lack of Wallace to show any empathy is clearly evident in those scenes.

Further, he dies and because he isn’t friends to a lot many people, his spirit doesn’t see any genuine friends appear in his funeral. Rest through out the book, its his journey to the other world where his reaper- Mei takes him to a Tea shop where he meets a few other people like Hugo (he is a ferryman), Nelson( who is Hugo’s Grand dad) and his dog Apollo. Wallance spends his initial time in the tea shop as an angry man who isnt able to digest the whole idea of being dead. But as the story progresses, he changes and is capable of feeling pain for his loved ones, build empathy and becomes self less.

Surprisingly, he also finds love in his time at the shop which eventually changed him. (I did not see that coming 🙂 )

What I liked about the book?  Loved everything about this book. A big fan of Klune’s way of writing and his ability to cascade his points through a story. Under the whispering door emphasizes on the importance of being surrounded by your loved ones and the impact that it can have on your mind and how you behave with others. It also strongly stresses on the point that its never too late to change. What  seems like an end to us, might not be an end but starting of a beautiful journey, so we should not give up hope.

Another important message that I would want to take away from the book is – no matter how materialistic we are but the real joy and peace would only come from helping others without expecting anything from them.

Finally, LET GO will solve half of our problems.
