Plot: This novel is about a girl, who has been put in a train by her parents to travel to an unknown territory or at least this is unknown for the girl: the Ninth Kingdom. Book is very short and simple. It is all about how fascinated the girl gets about the journey and the people she meets throughout.
The beutiful journey converts into a scary one, when one of the travelers tells her to focus on the weird behaviour of the people round her in the train and tells her about the Ninth Kingdom.
Though this is a simple story, but metaphorically it had a deep meaning. I see that Sylvia Plath (author) is reffering to the Ninth Kingdom as a region of frozen will. If there is no will, it’s very difficult for a person to find happiness and joy in anything. And for sure,no one wants to be in that spot.
The girl was asked to board the train, despite the fact that she didn’t wanted to. She had no clues on where the train was heading to,just like her real life situations. She had no idea where her life was taking her. While all the unassurance that prevailed, she could have easily gravitated towards negativity and in a state where she has no will of her own. But she was able to pull herself out of this mess, with the help of person she met on train ( real life).
What I liked about the book?
This is a great story which says a lot about willingness to live and not giving up and finally emerging as happy person. I would have wanted to read more abut Mary, why did her parents asked her to board the train, what happened to her after she left the train and more.
Who should read this?
I would highly recommend this book to someone who really wants to build up their reading game.
What did I learn from this book?
- This book clearly talks about – not giving up attitude. She has been boarded on a train by her parents and throughout she showed a strong urge to fight back the adversity.
