Plot: Anne started writing her diary at the age of 13 and her understanding of things is so mature compared to her age. Her writing still feels fresh, even after so many years. A big credit goes to her articulation, for that age, her work is very remarkable. I am sharing some of my favourite lines from the book:

We had a short circuit last night, and besides that, the guns were booming away until dawn. I still haven’t gotten over my fear of planes and shooting, and I crawl into father’s bed nearly every night for comfort. I know it sounds childish, but wait till it happens to you.

This was, definitely not something that I would expect in the diary of a 13 year old girl.It just breakes my heart to see the emotional damage the wars do to people, especially children.

Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor, helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a rucksack and a little cash with them, and even then they are robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart, men, women and children are seperated. Children come from school to find their parents have disappeared.

Now, please read the above paragraph again, realising that this was a first hand experience of a 13 year old girl.

This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.

What I liked about the book?

I loved this book. This was a diary of young girl that was made public, and my heart is all broken after reading it. Her words, her life made a personal connection with me and through out the pages I could feel her happiness and sadness.

Who should read this?

I highly recommend this book to people of all ages.

What did I learn from this book?

• We dont need materialistic things to be happy in life.

• We should find joy in small things in life.
